Dear Nicola Valley Honey Producers,

I love honey. It’s very delicious.

Last February I did “The Master Cleanse.” All I ate, err drank, for 7 days was a mixture of Maple Syrup, Lemon Juice, and Cayenne Pepper. And Laxitive tea. I was supposed to drink a liter of salt water every morning but I physically couldn’t drink it. While this may seem like a random tangent, it really isn’t. Stanley Burroughs, the author of The Master Cleanser wrote:

Honey must not be used at any time internally. It is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees—good enough in itself, perhaps—then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects for the human being.

According to one authority, honey is “a magical and mystical word in Healthfoodland. It is one of the most overpromoted, overpriced product being sold to gullible health foodists. The great value attributed to honey is delusive…honey is only a little less empty and more dangerous than sugar.”

Just as with alcohol, honey, being predigested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. To correct this, the pancreas must produce insulin immediately or possible death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then drops below normal. This can produce blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. The regular use of honey can create constant imbalances wich in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are the results of the use of unbalanced sugars. The balanced sugar in maple syrup and sugar can juice causes no dangerous side effects. Artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet.

I’m very impressionable and susceptible. I don’t want to die. Do you think you counter-argue his arguments so I can continue to enjoy your spectacular honey?

Have a great honey producing season,

Jeremy David

p.s. How much honey can I safely consume without getting fat?

Choose My Haircut (Faux Hawk, Ski Jump or More Shaggy)

My hair is at what I consider its ideal length… so that means it’s time for a change! Ha ha. So please vote on my haircut. We can go for the “Ski Jump”, a “Faux-Hawk”, or for those of you who have grown akin to my shaggyness, I could continue to grow it out. It’s really up to you.

Here are some diagrams I threw together for the three looks:

Ski Jump

Faux Hawk

More Shaggy

And here are some real pictures of me with the different looks. Well, except for the faux-hawk because I’ve never had one before.

The Real Ski Jump

Halloween many years ago. I was going to be Trinity, but changed my mind at the last minute. Oooh the pleather is fantastic.

Real Shaggy

Me in first year at the ferry terminal. What am I wearing on my eyes?

The Real Faux Hawk

Some random person whose face I thought it would be fun to erase.

Digg and The Million Dollar Homepage

On Friday, Aug 26, 2005, a teenager named Alex Tew came up an idea - to try and make $1m (US) by selling 1,000,000 pixels for $1 each – and made it happen. By January 2006 Alex sold the last pixels on www.milliondollarhomepage.com, and was a million dollars richer. It only took him five months to reach his goal. Simply outstanding.

I have no intentions to ever make a million dollars from this site. My goal is simply to go on outrageously fun adventures led by you, and let people live those adventures through this website. But even though I am not planning on making a million dollars, there is still a lot I can learn from the success of Alex’s website.

I looked through his blog and tried to pinpoint the key contributing factors to his tremendous success:

  1. His idea had never been done before

  2. It was a product that provided benefits to its users

  3. The world’s media loved his story and it spread like wildfire at a very low cost to him.

By September, his plans were in motion. People were buying pixels, and orders were piling up in his inbox. On September 9th, a popular website called digg further catapulted him into the mainstream. Interest in his website grew exponentially, and he couldn’t be stopped.

Digg is a fantastic Web2.0 site where users submit stories and vote on them. Popular stories get featured on the main page, and sites can receive thousands of hits. If you are not a member and are at all interested in Internet Technology, I strongly suggest checking out the page.

If you are a member, I am going to ask you a big favor: please please please digg this article [link]. It could literally increase traffic to this website ten-fold over night, and I would be eternally grateful.

I’ve taken most of the suggestions for Friday’s Birthday Hat and Drink suggestions, and compiled them into a survey. At 5:00 PM PST the survey will end, I am going to do my best to make or buy that birthday hat, and head over to the liquor store. Thank you for participating! It’s going to be a lot of fun.
