Synthetic Clothes Investigation (Nylon + Spandex vs. Polyester)

boxers

I thought since I am going to be living out of my backpack for a year it might be wise to invest in some new clothes - but I’m having a bit of a dilemma. Should I wear synthetic materials, or natural fibers?

I think synthetic materials’ drying attributes would be ideal for my adventure, since my clothes will be washed in sinks and hung to dry. However, before I go out and spend $500 on new clothes, I am going to do several experiments and trial runs. Here goes my first attempt at investigative blogging.

I purchased two pairs of boxers this weekend. The black ones - 95% Nylon / 5% spandex ($12) , and the green grey ones - 100% polyester ($23). I am going to rigorously test them: stiarmaster in them, sleep in them… switching every day and washing them at night in a sink. I’ll let you know how it turns out next week.

I’m really excited about the new direction of this blog, and I encourage you to contact me (or leave comments). Send me on some adventures, or submit ideas for stories… Whatever you want, I’m listening.

Cheers,

From an artistic point of view, I would prefer the black one…. but it’s just a girl’s viewpoint!
It depends, as well, on what you want to do: just travel or picking up some girls too?

Ha ha, I received this email that is sort of parallel to what you are saying:

interesting and important consideration especially when traveling. but what really struck me was the fashion, the aesthetic of it all. the two are very different. the black ones are more like trunks. theyre more compact, more fashionable. the other ones? theyre effin huge. gigantic. like nba shorts. consider where youre going. europe, outside north america, right? the trunks arent just more compact, easier to pack but also more universally appealing. no, i dont mean for hook ups when you take off your pants and reveal gigantic, ill fitting shorts that will stun, and prolly, turnoff your partner. i mean, you want underwear that says “im like you. sort of.” you dont want one that says “where’s the closest mcdonalds?” synthetic or natural, make sure the undies are well fitting and, uhm, culturally appropriate, for lack of a better word. even without hook ups, christ!you dont wanna hand the equivalent of a beach towel on a clothesline.

So I thought I would take this opportunity to comment on them.

Yes, one pair is rather large, and much bigger than what I am typically used to. However, the picture is a little misleading. The black shorts are really small. Really, really small. Basically spandex shorts that stretch to a more appropriate size - which I think is the point because those are “large”. The green/gray boxers are a medium. When I wear them, the gray ones go to about mid-thigh, and the black ones are upper thigh and sit lower on my waist.

In terms of material, the polyester ones dry much faster and have a texture similar to silk. I do agree though - I would prefer them to be a bit shorter. In terms of sexiness, the long ones certainly are not. I’ll keep you updated as I progress through the rest of the week.

Thank you all for your comments! Keep them coming.
