I have a serious commitment problem: not with people, but with putting ideas into action. Maybe I should start for the beginning… after an aside.
I was reading problogger the other day and came across an interesting paragraph that stuck a chord with me:
Jumping from One Random Thing to Another - this type of blogger is a serial starter of new blogs. They have an entrepreneurial spirit but find it difficult to stick at things and see them through to their potential. They’re easily distracted by the next ‘big thing’ and as a result don’t tend to fulfill their potential in the current things that they do.
I have this problem. Severely. You see, I always come up with ideas. Whether it is to start playing piano or learning Karate… there’s always something new. My problem is that I never stick with any of them. Now that I think about it, the only things I have ever stuck with are my university career and my around-the-world adventure. Yes, I havn’t actually gone on my adventure, but I have purchased the airplane tickets and am not going to let them go to waste.
So why am I writing this post?
I have always wanted to write a great blog. I want to provide people valuable resources and create something very compelling. I want to contribute to community.
Unfortunately, I have never stuck with an idea long enough to make it work. I flip around so much that it probably irritates readers and I do not amass enough information to produce something good anyway. So I have made a decision.
I am ending this blog for now, and focusing on jpony.com.
Don’t worry. I started the “Great Writing Challenge” and I intend to finish it. I bought several books on grammar and a really good book on style, and have been reading them every day. I also made some great friends, and with their help I am confident that I will be successful. At this time I do not think any of this would be blog material – unless I plagiarize those books and I have no intention on doing that.
I am almost done my degree, and this summer I am taking the Entrepreneurship Module in my business program, and I am going to use it to make my “Choose My Own Adventure” idea successful.
Thank you all very much for you time and dedication. It’s been great.
